He was once known as Speedball, because he had the power to manipulate kinetic energy. But, one day, his team, named "The New Warriors", went to capture the villian Nitro, near a school in Stamford. Nitro used his power to blow up the surrounding area, killing 612 people, including 60 children and the New Warriors. All of them, except Robbie.
He was found 500miles away, saved by his kinetic powers, that went dormant shortly after this. After waking up from a coma, he was arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D. Some time later, he was shot, and after recovering, agreed to join the Superhuman Registration Act. Suffering from guilt, and driven insane by his treatment, he dawns a new suit, covered with 612 spikes, each representing the Stanford victems. He pounds these spikes into his body, to activate and inhance his powers.
