During Wolrd War One Germany began to invade France and all of Western Europe to try and divide the Allies. The French were fit very hard by the German invasion and Western offenses. In order to protect and stop a further invasion of France, they built and digged trenches to stop German armies from advancing. The German did like wise, and so did the English trying to help the French. the results would be massive losses on all sides, the land between the opposing trenches would be known as no man's land.
The battle of Verdun was a battle that was fought between German forces and French forces at the now fortified fortress of Verdun. over the several months of fighting both sides lost a total of 1 million troops on both sides. ultimately the germans failed to bleed France white, the battle of Verdun was a French Victory that saved Paris.
The battle of the Somme was another victory for the French and the English. the Germans advance again into France at the Somme river. Both sides established their defensive trenches, when the battle began each day 60,000 men would die each day because of the intense fighting, after countless months, the Germans pulled out and focused else where. This was the bloodiest battle of World war one. the victory once again protected Paris from German capture.
