Bugsy Siegel Born 2/28/06 in NY. He began his career extorting money from Jewish peddlers. He then teamed up with Meyer Lansky in 1918 and took up car theft and later bootlegging and gambling rackets. Lansky and Bugsy ran a murder for hire operation. In 1937 he was sent to the West Coast to develop rackets. He successfully developed gambling dens, gambling ships, narcotics smuggling, and blackmail. In 1945 he built the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. During the construction he wrote bad checks which angered Lansky. On 6/20/47 Bugsy was killed in his home in CA. At about the same time Lansky's henchmen walked into the Flamingo and declared they where taking over.
Prohibition It began on Jan. 16, 1920 when the 18th amendment went into effect. During prohibition, the manufacture, transportation, import, export, and sale of alcoholic beverages were illegal. Prohibition was supposed to lower crime and corruption, reduce social problems, lower taxes needed to support prisons and poorhouses, and improve health and hygiene. Instead alcohol became more dangerous to consume;organized crime blossomed;courts and prisons systems became overloaded and corruption of policeand public officals occurred.
Lucky Luciano Born Nov. 11, 1896 in Sicily. He came to NY in 1906 He started out at a young age mugging people and shop lifting and extortion. In 1916 he spent 6 months in jail for selling heroin. He was the mastermind of the massive postwar expansion of the international herion trade. In 1920 he joined Joe Masseria and by 1925 he was Masseria's chief lieutenant. He was directing bootlegging, prostitution, narcotics distribution and other rackets. In 1929 he was abducted by 4 men he was then beaten, stabbed repeatedly with an ice pick, had his throat silt from ear to ear and then was left for dead. But he survived and earned his nickname Lucky.In 1931 He lured Masseria and had him assassinated by 4 loyalists Genovese, Anastasia, Adonis and Siegel. He became capo di tutti capi which means boss of all bosses. But in 1935 prosecutors gathered evidence of his brothel and call-girl empire and related extortion. And in 1936 he was indicted, tried, and convicted and was sentenced to 30-50 years. He died in Naples in 1962.
Al Capone He was born jan. 17, 1899 in NY. At 14 he got involved with Johnny Torrio which was like a mentor to him. He next got involved with Frankie Yale. While working for him his face was slashed 3 times on the left side and this is how he got his nickname Scarface. In 12/30/18 Capone got married to Mae Coughlin an Irish women. They had a son named Albert"Sonny"Capone. In 1921 he moved to Chicago. There he got rich by illegal enterprises such as gambling ,prositution and the sale of liquor. Capone orchestrated the mose notorious gangland killing of the century it was called The St. Valentines Day Massacre. He was trying to get rid of rival "Bugs" Moran. But he wasn't even there that day. In 1931 Capone was sentenced to 11years in jail for tax invasion. He completed his term on 1/6/39. He went to live in miami and no longer was a boss due to his failing health. He died 1/21/47 from complications of syphilis and stroke.
