There are three levels of government; national, provincial, and municipal. The national government is responsible for making laws for the entire country. It is also responsible for things like peace and order, federal taxes, banking and citizenship. The provincial government is responsible for passing laws that apply to that province. They are also responsible for things like; education, welfare, savings banks and property rights.The municipal government takes care of local tings in the city or town they're in charge of like; libraries, parks, streets, police, fire departmants, garbage disposal and a lot more.
Canada's Government
Canadas government is a constitutional monarchy, a parlimentary democracy and a federadion. Which means that we decide on things by the majority. Which also means that we vote on a lot of things. We don't give just one person power over the whole country.
The three parts of parliment are the Queen, the Senate and the House of Commons.
Senators who sit in the senate are appointed by the Governor General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
The main job of the Senate is to reveiw the laws proposed by the House of Commons.
Canada's Govener General is Michalle Jean. One of the most important roles for the Govener General is to make sure there is always a Prime Minister. Canada's Prime Minister is Stephen Harper. The responsibilities of the prime minister are ; presiding over Cabinet meetings, and answering questions in the House of Commons. The major role or responsibility of the House of Commons. is to make laws.
The rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizens are; to aply for a passport, vote in an election, run in an election, obey Canada's laws, elinminate discrimination and injustice, express opinions freely while respecting the rights and freedoms of ther people, to help other people in our community, and to protect our heritage and enviroment. We also have Mobility rights, Legal rights, Equality rights, Aborigional peoples' rights, and Fundamental freedoms.
