Immigration 1865-1914
Millions of immigrants came into the United states after the war. Most of the immigrants came from southern and eastern Europe. They all left for America because they thought it was the land of oppertunity.
Some pull factors of the U.S were the promise of freedom, the promise of work and the promose of a better life.
Some push factors of the U.S were the immigrants were not land owners and the lived in terrible and often dangerous contiditons.
The voyage to the United States was hard and dirty. Most immirants slept in the steerage which was below deck. The steerage condition were cramped and stuffy and sickness spread easily.
Ethnic neighborhoods were where groups of people of the same ethnic backgroung lived, this helped immigrants adjust to the U.S a little better.
