Punk Rock of the 1970's
Garage music is accepted as what punk rock sprang up from. This heavy music generally consists of one to three electric guitars, an eletric bass, and a drum set. The singers often yell into the microphone instead of sing into it, especially during solos.
The movement came to New York in the late 1960s and 1970s as the form of the trash culture and underground music. This is one of the earliest recordings of it in North America. It was found in other cities in the US, but finding it was unlikely as it was not a popular genre.
Iggy Pop is widely recognized as the Godfather of Punk Rock
The Ramones began in the 1970s. As the drummer quotes, "punk rock had to come along because the rock scene had become so tame that [acts] like Billy Joel and Simon and Garfunkel were being called rock and roll, when to me and other fans, rock and roll meant this wild and rebellious music."
The Clash was a popular Punk Rock band in the 1970s and beyond in London, England, where the genre was more popular. Bands such as these often wrote songs negatively talking about their "flawed" government, as they were unhappy with it.
Punk rock originated, and was most popular, in the UK in the 1970s. It was not until much later that it became widely popluar in the United States because of it's off the wall sound and topics, such as the anti-establishment and anti-government themes.
