Milton Hershey ( 1857-1945)
Milton Hershey was born on September 13th, 1857. Milton learned how to become and entrepreneur from his father, who was in on the farming business. Milton worked as a newspaper assistant at the age of 14 but dropped a tray of type and was fired. Milton's mom was friends with Joseph H. Royer and he allowed Milton to work with him at his candy making business.
When Hershey was 19 he started a candy making business of his own from borrowed money from his aunt and uncle. Unfortunatley his business failed and he had to close down his shop.. After learning that fresh milk made the chocolate taste better he tried opening another shop, but it too failed. After so many failures Milton finally found success.
The caramels became very popular and Hershey was able to expand his company and the rest of is history. Hershey was a very active member in contributing to the society. In 1909 he created a school for orphaned boys which taught young boys how to work with business and trade.
Milton partnered with William Henry Lebkicher and started another candy business making Hershey's Crystal A Caramel.
When Hershey's wife died, he donated his entire fortune of 60 million dollars to the school. Hershey died on October 13, 1945. Today his chocolate factory is the biggest in the world and new products keep coming out continuing Hershey's work.
The Hershey company reported a slaes of 1.16 billion dollars in its first term. Milton Hershey was a risk taking entrepreneur refusing to give up on his dream in becoming a chocolate factory owner.
