''Crossing the Frozen River'' Deep clouds hang over ten thousand cavalry, A thousand flags echo in the teeth of the gale. By midnight the river has iced over, the imperial armies cross without fear. Below the poem is an added note, reading: For a time the river was not completely frozen over. No sooner had the marching orders been given to cross the river than it could be crossed as if by walking on flat ground.

Put a stop to false accusations in order to protect the good and honest. 14. Promptly and fully pay your taxes in order to avoid forced requisition.
Kangxi was the 2nd emperor of the Qing dynasty. He is recognized as one of China's greatest rulers. His rule was a time of stability & prosperity. ''Under his reign, the Treaty of Nerchinsk was signed with Russia, parts of Outer Mongolia were added to China's territory, and control was extended over Tibet.'' Kangxi ordered the reconstruction of the Grand Canal & Yellow River to prevent flooding & to feed the North. ''Kangxi reduced taxes many times and opened four ports to foreign ships for trade.'' He welcomed Roman Catholicism in China through Jesuit missionaries. that became influential at court. Hundreds of court officials converted.
The Kangxi Dictionary was published in 1716. It was the standard dictionary of the 18th & 19th centuries. It contains over 47,000 characters.
