Imagine a world without numbers. You have no numerals to work with and no language yet. In this world, you feed yourself by keeping goats, cows and other animals. However, you seemed to feel that sometimes you have more animals and sometimes you have less. You do have concepts of “more”, “less” and “equal”. Suppose you are a shepherd, how can you keep track of the number of sheep you have without inventing a new language or writing for numerals?
