SYMPTOMS: 1. A bump(s) appear(s) that may hurt when hit or scraped 2. Bumps occur on the penis, prepuce, or scrotum in men, on the labias, between the genitalia & anus, or on the thighs in women. 3. Right now, chancroid is relatively uncommon in North America. It is more common in African countries and other tropical, third world countries. This is probably due to a lack of education on the subject of STIs, as well as a lack of available protection.
CHANCROID IS ONLY SPREAD BY SEXUAL CONTACT.
This does not mean that one must practice abstinence to avoid chancroid. One must simply be careful when sexually active, use protection and choose his/her partner responsibly. It is important to wash and check the genitals for the symptoms of chancroid regularly.
HOWEVER . . . Chancroid numbers are currently on the rise in the U.S. Why is this happening? It seems there may be a growing disregard for health education in America. If uneducated, people cannot stop the spread of infection. For chancroid in particular, there is one rule:
