The future Louis XIV was born in the chteau de Saint-Germain-en-Laye on September 5, 1638 and bore the heir apparent's traditional title of Dauphin.. On 14 May 1643, after Louis XIII died his young son Louis XIV took control. Louis XIV Died on September 1, 1715.
Louis XIV continued the work of his predecessors to create a centralized state governed from the capital in order to sweep away the remnants of feudalism which had persisted in parts of France. Louis XIV also took a passionate interest in religious questions.
