The main reasons why Ancient Greece was such a powerful nation can all be blamed on its unique geography. Since it was 80% covered in mountains, this isolated Greece from surrounding regions, which helped in developing city-states. Greece's bays provided harbors for ships, which flourished trade and transportation, as well. Another factor to the success of Greece was their fertile coastland, which produced their oh-so delicious cash crops, grapes and olives.
