The Jack pine, or gray pine, or scientifically referred to as is grown in mainly sandy, rocky, or shallow, acidic soils. It's height peaks around 50-60 feet and it's diameter is roughly 8-10 inches and the bark is thin with irregular and rounded ridges, not to mention dark brown with a reddish hue. The leaves, however, are found in clusters of two and are three quarters to an inch and a half long with stout, yellow to green coloring, depending on the time of the year. Although the tree is coniferous, the scales on the pine cones are not. As for the wood, it is moderately hard, heavy, and close-grained, which works well for pulp, firewood, and box boards.
