On the Issues
My Opinion
Barack Obama Says... On Education- Advocates ensuring access to high-quality early childhood education programs and child care opportunities, recruit well-qualified and reward expert, accomplished teachers. Make science and math education a national priority. Reduce the high school dropout rate and empower parents to raise healthy and successful children by taking a greater role in their child's education at home and at school. On Abortion- Barack Obama is pro-choice On Iraq- Believes that we need to start withdrawing our troops from Iraq. On Taxes- Proposes a "making work pay" tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family. Proposes eliminating income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000 per year and eliminating all capital gains taxes on start-ups and small businesses. On guns- Supports instant criminal background checks on people purchasing guns and believes law should apply to gun sales at gun shows. Calls for permanently reinstating assault weapons ban On Iran- Believes in using diplomatic efforts and would meet with leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea during first year of presidency. Would leave military option on the table.
My Opinion On Education- I agree with both candidates on education. I couldn't decide between them because I agreed with both of them equally. On Abortion- I'm pro-choice On Iraq- I agree with John McCain that if we start withdrawing troops now, all the American lives lost will be in vain. On Taxes- Like most people, I'm not a big fan about paying taxes, but with all of the programs Barack Obama is proposing we'll be paying a lot more with him. On guns- I don't agree with the second amendment. I think it's outdated and in current times, guns shouldn't be carried around in public. And if they are, you should have to get a permit that is very hard to get. On Iran- I think we should only go into Iran if we are very threatened and I think we should reason before military action is taken After looking over the issues, my final descion for president is John McCain. I agreed with a lot of issues that Barack Obama believed in but most of them were irrevalent to me. I agree with most of the Republican views, and so does John McCain, and that's why I want him to be president of the United States of America
John McCain says... On Education- Stated during GOP primary debates: "We need more charter schools. We need vouchers where it's approved by the local, state school boards. We need to have, clearly, home schooling if people want that … We need to reward good teachers and find bad teachers another line of work." On Abortion- John McCain is pro-life On Iraq- Believes that we must finish our mission in Iraq before we withdraw. On Taxes- Says he would double the child deduction from $3,500 to $7,000 and permanently repeal the alternative minimum tax. Says he would reduce the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent. On guns- Supports instant criminal background checks on people purchasing guns and believes law should apply to gun sales at gun shows. Opposes restrictions on assault weapons and voted against such a ban. On Iran- Did not vote on a September 2007 Senate resolution calling on the administration to declare Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization. Says military action is an option, but would consult with congressional leaders before taking action.
