Native American versions claim that the creature was once human, trasformed by usage of dark magic. According to other lore, a wendigo is created whenever a human resorts to cannibalism, being forced to eat members of the tribe or camp due to harsh weather or being trapped. Some Lores believe that seeing a wendigo is a death omen, as a number of appearances happened in Minnesota, and a death followed each one.
From what we do know the creature excels at strength and is “a near perfect hunter. It knows every inch of it’s territory, every cave, tree and bush. More than anything, a wendigo knows how to last long winters without food. It hibernates for years at a time, but when it’s awake it keeps it’s victims alive. It stores them, so it can feed whenever it wants. It can also control the weather through the use of dark magic. Because of this, the Native American tribes have actively hunted the creature in the past.
A wendigo is a very real creature of the northern woods & prairies of Northern Minnesota & Northern regions of Canada, usually seen by hunters or campers. Kenora, Canada is the place most well known for Sightings. But, there are legends and myths about what a wendigo actually is.
The descriptions of wendigos are normally the same, incredibly thin, glowing eyes, long yellowed fangs, very long tongues and over fifteen feet tall with yellowish skin. They have a appetite for human flesh, causing disappearances of woodsmen or campers. The Wendigo has many names, including Witigo, Wikio, and Wee-Tee-Go but they all roughly translate to mean “the evil spirit that devours mankind.”
