Michelangelo -Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet, and engineer. -Two of his best-known sculptures are David and Pieta, which he sculpted before the age of thirty. -David- shows he had mastered anatomy. -Pieta was originally intended to go on his tomb. -One of the first painers to use ''fresco'' technique. -Images and background show The Sistine Chapel in Rome. He painted the whole thing. -Started with the cieling- Biblical stories and history. -Moved onto the altar wall where he painted the Last Judgement. -Only took him four years to complete (1508-1512) -After that he was universally reguarded as the greatest living artist. (Age:37) Greatest influent on western art in the last five centuries. New techniques, thinking. David is a religious figure but Michelangelo's works also so humanism/realism.
