DISADVANTAGES The disadvantages of the cathode ray tube is it's picture quality, size, and appearance. Nobody wants a bulky box in their living room with a mediocre picture, they would perfer something a bit more attractive, like a plasma that could hang on a wall.
ADVANTAGES The best advantage of the cathode ray tube would deffidently have to be its price, because with the outragous prices of plasmas and LCDs, the cathode ray tube seems like the better financial choice.

The cathode it a heated filement in a vacuum created inside a glass, and because of this a stream of electrons come of the cathode into the vacuum to produce the image that you see.
