Hydrographs
Storm hydrographs. - A hydrograph is a graph which displays the discharge of water at a fixed point over a period of time. - The fixed point is called a gauging station. -This is useful because it can show how a river respons to a storm therefore allowing us to pedict future flooding.
How a hydrograph works. 1. The storm begins and precipitation starts to increaese. 2. As the rainfall peaks, more water runs into the iver from runoff then throughflow. 3. The time between when the river swells and when the river remains at baseflow is called lag time. The hydrograph is a graph that displays all this.
