Mayan Culture
The countries from the now Mexican states of Campeche and Yucatn down to Honduras in Central America.
Religion..... The Mayans were Polytheism, beleiving in many gods. Three of their major gods were Ku,kulan, the feathered serpant, , Yum Kaax, god of nature, and Chac, the rain god.
Two of the major cities known to Mayan Culture were Tikal and Palenque that are located in Mexico.
Fellow Gods....
Chichn Itza .... Mexico's Yucatn has the famous huge pyramid of the sun. On the MayaPage I've linked to some spring '95 Eqinox ceremony photos that show a special relationship of the pyramid's geometry with light and shadows on that day of the year. Chichn Itza became the capital of the Yucatn Maya after the end of the Classic period. They organized a trading empire (1000-1521) that stretched from the Gulf Coast to Honduras.
Kukulan..... to make this god happy they would have human scrifices. That is not seen today thank god.
MAYANS!
The Maize God is representative of the ripe grain which was the base of the Mayan agriculture. The Maize God is combined with the God of Flora, Yumil Kaxob in certain areas of Mesoamerica. The Maize God is usually shown with a headdress of maize, or corn, and a curved streak on his cheek. He is also different from other gods because he is portrayed as a youth. However, the Maize God was powerless by himself. Rain and drought controled his fortunes and misfortunes. He suffered when the Death God exercised drought and famine, and the Rain God would protect him.
Chac..... the god of rain. The mayan's made him happy by praying to him as a routine to make sure there wasn't going to be a drough.
Demise.....
In 1442, the Incas began a far-reaching expansion under the command of Pachacutec, whose name literally means earth-shaker. He formed the Inca Empire (Tawantinsuyu), which would become the largest empire in pre-Columbian America.[2] The Empire was split by a ritual war to decide who would be Inca Hanan and who would be Inca Hurin, which pitted the brothers Huascar and Atahualpa against each other. In 1533, Spanish invaders led by Francisco Pizarro took advantage of this situation and conquered much of the existing Inca territory.[3] In succeding years, the invaders consolidated power over the whole Andean region, repressing successive Inca resistance and culminating in the establishment of the Viceroyalty of Per in 1542. The militant phase of Inca liberation movements ended with the fall of resistance in Vilcabamba during 1573. Though indigenous soverignity was lost, Inca cultural traditions remain strong among surviving indigenous descendants such as the Quechuas and Aymara people.
math and it does help because everyone around the world uses it.
Society Benifits...
Chac was the Rain God. The Mayans often sought his help for their crops. Chac was closely associated with the creation of life. Chac was believed to be divided into four equal parts, representing North, South, East and West. Chac was also believed to be associated with the Wind God, Kukulcan. Some Mayans and historians believe Kukulcan was just a variation of Chac. Gold and jade were sacrifices to this god.
Palenque Stands at the foothills of the Chiapas highlands. It was built as a portal to the underworld in the 8th century, where Maya kings might defeat the Lord Death and return in dreams and visions. In the observatory tower at the center of Palenque palace, small portals were aligned to enable the sighting of Venus throughout the year at its first appearance on the horizon. This was the signal to begin war.

Yautepec was an Aztec urban center whose ruins today lie under the modern town of the same name in the Mexican state of Morelos. Three recent archaeological projects make Yautepec one of the most intensively-studied Aztec cities outside of the imperial capital Tenochtitlan Gods…. CHALCHIUHTLICUE In her aquatic aspect, she was known as Acuecucyoticihuati, goddess of oceans, rivers and any other running water, as well as the patron of women in labor. She was also said to be the wife of Xiuhtecuhtli. She is sometimes associated with a rain goddess, Matlalcueitl
CHALCHIUHTLICUE In the myth of the five suns, she had dominion over the fourth world, which was destroyed in a great flood. She also presides over the day 5 Serpent and the trecena of 1 Reed. Her husband was Tlaloc and with him, she was the mother of Tecciztecatl and ruler over Tlalocan. In her aquatic aspect, she was known as Acuecucyoticihuati, goddess of oceans, rivers and any other running water, as well as the patron of women in labor
The Aztcs brought us calendars and without them, then we wouldn’t know what day it was or anything like that.
In spite of the invasion of foreign tourism, Mayan culture has remained amazingly intact. Many of the Yucatan Mayans whose ancestors were hunters, chicle farmers and fisherman now work in hotels and other tourist related businesses. More than 350,000 Mayans living in the Yucatan speak Yukatek Mayans and most speak Spanish as a second language, primarily learned in school.
The Mayans were ruled by the founder of the Mayan kingdom and civilization. Fairly good authority, based upon study of the Mayans chronicles and calendar, places this beginning near the close of the second century of the Christian Era. Revolution…. The Mayans history of the seventeenth century is chiefly one of revolutions, viz., 1610-33, 1636-44, 1653, 1669, 1670, and about 1675. During the attack…. The Indians burned and ravaged in every direction, nineteen flourishing towns being entirely wiped out, and the population in three districts being reduced from 97,000 to 35,000. The war of extermination continued, with savage atrocities, through 1864, when it gradually wore itself out, leaving the Indians still unsubdued and well supplied with arms and munitions of war from Belize. Conquering…. 1910 - Mexican troops put down a serious rising in the northern part of the peninsula.
