HERITAGE AND CHRISTIANITY
Greece falls to Rome
- ***Rome was heavily influenced by Greek culture. *** By the end of the 4th century there was 3 great powers that had control. Phil then started to siez territorities is the Asia Minor and Aeagan sea. Rome fought Philip during the 2nd Punic War. This then leads Rome to making a army with Flaminius. in 200 B.C The Macedonian War began. There were 2 more Macedonian Wars and by the third one Rome invades Greece. Roman Republic lived in a state of crisis for 100 years. After the fall of Corinth the Greek empire was falling and Rome was its ruler.
How Rome Implodes
-Money was used to build churches; it should have been used to expand the empire. -There was public health and environmental problems -Cities couldn't be maintained and this led to the lose of many businesses -Increasing crime rate -Salaries and taxes were paid in food and clothing -Maintaining an army to defend border of Empire -Empire hired unemployed and foreign people to be in army -Military spending left few resources for pubic housing and aqueducts -Inflation -Christianity made a lot of Roman citizens into pacifists this made it harder to defend against barbarian attacks -A lot of farmers were losing their farms -When the empire needed a new leader, and then gave it to the highest bidder. -In 476 A.D Augustus Romulus was over thrown
Greece -Aristocrats lived for partying and their reputation. Hollywood is the definition of this. -Greece based their culture of off Roman culture; we today based our culture off of the world’s culture. - They had olympics and we still have them today,
Rome -Their crime rates went up and made the streets unsafe. We have the same problem today. - They had no one to work on their farms and they had to raise the prices on their goods. The same is happening today in the U.S -Rome had poor people living on the streets as we do today.
Connections to today
The Middle Ages are pretty much what Rome and Greece weren't. Rome and Greece were all about expanison, and the middle ages were the
Downfalls to Greece and Rome leds to the Dark and Middle Ages
complete opposite of that.. Middle ages were isolated and didnt expand themselves. The reason they thought like this was becasue of the Romans and Greeks. Middle ages knew what went wrong with Rome government and economics. So they would do the opposite.
