Description of the cell 1.) Cancer cells are cells that never stop reproducing. Scientist think that cancer begins when part of some DNA in a chromosome get damaged. The damaged DNA is called a mutation. Since the cells are mutated, they make changes in the normal cell cycle which makes it divide uncontrollably. Cancer is not found in one spot it is found in multiple spots in your body.
Parts of the Cell Mitochondria: Does respiration. Lysosomes: Breaks down worn out cell parts, food, and waste products. Vacuoles: Store materials until they are needed. ex. food, water, waste. Endoplasmic Reticulum: (ER) It transports materials throughout the cell. Ribosomes: Makes protein. Found in two places 1) Attached to the ER 2) In the cytoplasm. Golgi Bodies: Packs up proteins that are ready to be sent to your body. Cilium: a hairlike bulge from the exterior of the cell that lets the cell swim on it's own in a unicellular organism.
Cancer Cells Lesson
10 Characteristics of Life Locomotion: the cancer cells move by the cilium. Synthesis: the ribosomes make protein. Transport: the endoplasmic reticulm transports materials throughout the cell. Reproduction: the mutation makes the cancer cell reproduce uncontrollably.
Cell Parts 2.) Cancer cells are made up of the same organelles as an animal cell. The only part that is mutated is the reproduction part of the cell because of a gene in the DNA. Major parts of the cancer cell: cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm Cell Membrane: decides what goes in and out. Nucleus: Command center- guided by DNA.

Cell Parts Cytoplasm: Floats around carrying organelles. In the cytoplasm there is: mitochondria, lysosomes, vacuoles, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), ribosomes and golgi bodies.
10 Characteristics of Life Nutrition: the lysosomes break down worn out cell parts, food, and waste products. Growth: the cell grows because the nucleus tells it to. Excretion: the golgi bodies pack up protien and send it to your body. Regulation: the cell membrane decides what goes in and out, and the nucleus controls the cell.
10 Characteristics of Life 3.) Metabolism: the mitochondria does respiration, the ribosomes do synthesis and the lysosomes do digestion. Respiration: the mitochondria burns food for fuel.
