In the end, Around 1865 and 1866, work on women’s suffrage began to pick up once more. Two important women during the time, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, formed the American Equal Rights Association for all of those who worked toward the goal of universal sufferage. Many things happened in between that time and the 1920’s, yet the most important was the arrest of Susan B. Anthony in Rochester, New York, in 1872. During her arrest, she demanded a ballot to vote in the election, but was turned away. Then, after several years, on August 26, 1920, after the establishment of National Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage is organized in 1911, the nineteenth amendment is finally ratified. This achievement was greeted with much relief by everyone, but none so much as the brave women who had worked so hard to reach this point. Women had finally gained the right to vote, and women’s suffrage was over. However, no woman will forget the sacrifices made during this time, and how any one person, gender, or group, can make all the difference.
