Great Britain's Strenghts: - Strong Navy - Largest Empire - Island - Well Protected
France's Objectives: - Need to expand Empire - Build up army and navy - Defend's itself from France - Make alliances - Build up Power
European Powers: Prior 1914
Britain's Objectives: - Develop Army - Make Alliances - Sustain Power - Make Bigger Empire - Defend Territory - Make sure Army and Navy was stronger than Germany's.
Great Britain: At this moment, Great Britain were happy to remain in 'Splendid Isolationism' from any alliances - as long as no single power took control. It was a deliberate policy in Britain. Britain depended highly on the Navy as it was a Island - therefore it was very strong and envied by other great powers.
Germany's Objectives:: - Need Overseas Colonies - Need an Empire like France and Britain had - Build up a vast army - Get rid of 'Encirclement' - Match Great Britain's Power
Germany's Strenghts: - Navy: 2nd most powerful to Britains - Ambitious Leader - 2nd Best Industry - Won war against France
France: France was quite weak at this point as they had just lost Alsace Lorraine to Germany. France were bitter over this.
Key Alliances
Germany: Before 1870, it was a collection of small independant states, of which Prussia was most powerful. Bismarck made the German Empire. They formed an alliance with Austria-Hungary and Italy in 1882, called the 'Triple Entente'. By 1914, Germa's Industry had taken over Britain's and was second in the world to the USA.
