The main character is Salva Dut- Ariik
In 1985, Salva had to flee when a war broke out in his village between the Sudanese Rebels and the Government.
Salva was separated from his family for about 8 years. He traveled to different refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya by walking.
Nya's Story
Salva was eventually sent to America with 8 other Lost Boys.
Recently, Salva began an organization called Water for Sudan.
Nya, like many other girls in her village, had to walk miles to go to the nearest pond to collect water for their families. Nya made these long trips to the pond and back to her home every day for seven months out of the year.
Nya's story took place Southern Sudan, in 2008.
During the five month drought when the pond near Nya's village dried up, her family would walk three days to a camp with a pond near it. Nya continued making trips to that pond , retrieving water and taking it back to her family's camp.
Sometime in 2008, some visitors came to Nya's village to drill for clean water and begin the process of building a well. The well was finished in 2009 and Nya loved having water readily availabe to her and the other people of her tribe.
Salva's Story
The story ended with Nya being able to meet the person who built the well for her village. She wanted to express her gratitude. The man Nya thanked was Salva Dut- Ariik..
