Interesting Facts
Tropical Storm Emily formed about 400 miles east of the Windward Islands early on august 24th. Emily moved northwest and then northward for a few days...with its center remaining at least 250 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Winds reached 50 mph late on the 24th...but the larger and stronger circulation of Hurricane Cindy...limited further development and Emily was absorbed by Cindy on the 28th. Already the record fifth named storm of the season, Emily made landfall in Mexico as a major hurricane two separate times: first in the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4 storm and now again in Tamaulipas along the northeast coast south of the Texas Hurricane Emily had just passed Hurricane Dennis for being the strongest July hurricane ever! Grenada, which was devastated by the wrath of Hurricane Ivan in September, 2004, was in the process of trying to recover from the 2004 season's most powerful storm when it got a second hit from Emily. The hit by Emily proved to be a very tough obstacle for those in the tiny island.
