Respiratory System (vocal cords)
The voice box is the part of the respiratory system that produces the sound. The vocal cords in the voice box vibrate by the help of arytenoids. The vocal cords vibrate like the strings on a guitar, if they start to strech then the pitch will elivate and the pharyngeal wall squeezes together. If the vocal cords have less tension then the pitch desends and the pharyngeal wall pushes out. As you take a breath the vocal cords spread apart and alows the oxygen to go into the lungs and distribute it threw out the body. The carbon dioxide that you exhale hits the vocal cords causing them to vibrate to produce a sound that becomes your voice. For that reason you can only speak regularly wile breathing out. The flap that controles wether to breath out your mouth or your nose is called the epiglottis. The epiglottis is the reason that you cant breath out your mouth and nose at the same time but for some people they can do just that and can make a continuis note that never stops wich is a trick that opera singers use.
