Religious Beliefs of the Afterlife
-Different denominations have slightly different afterlife beliefs -Most Christians believe in a Heaven with the presense of God and other believers -No sin or suffering -Before Jesus, there was a place called limbo -Christians believe in a Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory -Where a person goes, depends on how they lived their life
Christianity
-Muslims believe in a Day of Judgment -Until the Day of Judgment, deceased souls remain in their graves -God will recreate their body -Allah will judge on the last day based on life -The Day of Judgment is described as passing over a bridge
Islam
Two Kinds: -No God -No belief in God
Atheism
-Hinduism believes in the rebirth of souls -The Jiva is the part of a person that is reborn -Death is not thought of as an end -Ultimate goal is to complete one's being, and leave all worldly desires behind
Hinduism
-One's spirit is taken to the god of walls and moats, where a sort of judgment takes place -Spirits are then sent to paradise or hell -Hell is not eternal Two ways to reicarnate: -One may climb onto the wheel of transmigration -One may be thrown off the bridge of pain into a river
