Thomas Aquinas (1225c.-March 7, 1274) High middle Ages
Thomas Aquinas was born into a noble family near the small town of Aquino which lies between Naples and Rome. He became a Dominican friar in 1244 and was a heavyweight scholar. His best known works being the Summa contra Gentiles and the Summa theologiae. In these works faith and reason are harmonized into a grand theological-philosophical system which inspired the medieval philosophical tradition known as Thomism. This has been favored by the Roman Catholic Church ever since
Thomas Aquinas was a very smart and intelligent person. Thomas Aquinas is known as the patron Saint of schools and students because of his academic achievements. Thomas Aquinas writings are still used today as a cornerstone for the Catholic Church. Thomas Aquinas was canonized a saint in 1323. Thomas Aquinas feast day is on January 28. Thomas Aquinas was suppose to follow his uncle’s footsteps but he ran off and left everything, to study Christianity.
