The picture with the Asian soldiers in it relates to the Eurasian soldiers that Orwell depicts in 1984. They are the enemy of Oceania and are used to show what real evil is suppose to look like instead of the evil looking like the government The picture with the rat shows Winston’s deepest and darkest fear. He would rather die than have to see or be next to a rat. Winston’s thinks that rats are the nastiest and most foul creatures on the Earth. The picture with the open field in it represents the Golden Country that Goldstein describes in his book. It is a vast open field with blue skies, green grass, and tall trees, unlike the crowded, industrial, and dirty city of London where Winston lives. The jail cell is what I imagined the cell that Winston was put into when he was captured by the Thought Police. It is a dark damp cell with no windows, so you cannot see the light of day. As if it was meant to suck the life right out of you. The red dairy is what Winston wrote what he actually felt about his life and what is going on. It was his only chance to actually be free and he utilized that every chance he got. The coral paperweight is to symbolize the past. Winston did not need but he got it anyway because it was a piece of the past before Big Brother came into power. Winston was always looking for some pieces of the puzzle to the past. The man that is on his knees represents a person who is about to be executed by being shot in the back of the neck. Winston was never afraid of being shot in the back of the neck and eventually he does get shot in the back of the neck as the book is ending.
