Elizabeth was born at Greenwich Palace and was named after both her grandmothers, Elizabeth of York and Elizabeth Howard. She was the second child of King Henry VIII. When Elizabeth was two and a half years old her mother was executed on May 19 1536. Elizabeth was declared illegitimate and was not allowed the chance of the title of Princess. .By the time her formal education ended in 1550, she was one of the best educated women of her generation.

One of her nicknames was Good Queen Bess. This was an affectionate nickname the country had for her, showing their support. Elizabeth was known to be brave, and to have a sense of humor and she was very successful. Another nickname was, The Virgin Queen, in a reference to her choice not to marry. Elizabeth's reign was of triumph and success which is why people also called the Queen "Gloriana".

King Henry VIII had very talented children. Elizabeth loved to be outside and roam around in her garden. She also had many other hobbies like, hunting, riding horses, playing and listening to music and poetry. When ever she had free time, these are the most common things she would and liked to do.
