Stage 1: Innocence- The hero lives an basic life, not knowing what going to happen. Santiago lives a life of anaverage fisherman.. He wentout as far as everyone else. He didn't know what was to come, or fish.
Stage 2: Depature The hero goes on an adventure, they generally don'twant to go, but they do. Santiago went eighty four days without having a fish, so he went out furtherthan everyone. He got a fish, but he kept going out.
Stage 5: Final Battle The hero has some new phsyical, spititual, or emotional power with in. After three days Santiago has had enough. The fish was close to the surface so he harpooned it. He finally caught the fish. It was so big that he had to put the fish on the underside of the boat, head and tail showing. Also he was tired. On the way home mako sharks came and ate the fish only leavin the head and tail. Santiago tried to fight off the sharks, but they were too much. So he won and he lost.
Stage 3: Initiation, Facing Unknown The hero starts in a more dangerous world, matureing as time progresses. Santiago decided that he was going to stay out in the ocean over night with his brother (the fish). After that, he still stayed out.
Stage 4: Initiation/Trials and Testing The hero endures all, it is a test to see how much the people can endure. Santiago stays out in the ocean enduring the fish pulling, and the pain from the rope on his hands and spine. He promises to say 100 Our Fathers, and 100 Hail Mary's.
Old Man and the Sea- Hero's Journey
Stage 6: Return to Society The hero returns to society, and they use their new found knowledge to make things right. Snatiago gets back to the beach near his home. He ties the boat up and brings his stuff to his house. The boy finds him with his injuries . The fish was compleatly gone., just the head and tail, but enough to know it was eighteen feet long. After that his life was normal, but the boy was going to fish wiht him.
