Badminton began as a simple children's game called battledore and shuttlecock. In this game two players would simply hit feathered shuttlecocks back in forth with small rackets. It first began in Greece and Egypt then finally spread to India. In India they called this game poona and in the 1800s when the British Army was there they liked the game so much that they brought it back with them to England. The game eventually became very well-known when the Duke of Beaufort held a party that showcased it. The game then didn't have a name so since this party was thrown at Badminton, Gloucestershire they officially named it badminton. After this party the game was eventually spread throughout the world.
