What: Milk bottles are bottles that were delivered to the house and then would be put through little doglike doors. Buyers would be expected to rinse the bottles and then leave them out side the door in the little holders and leave the money in the bottom of the milk jug.
Who: Almost every one had a milk bottles, but depending on how rich you were you could afford bigger or smaller sizes. And the milkman would deliver it either on his bike or else in an older type of truck. Milkmen’s age ranged from 13 to 30.
Where: Milk bottles where used all over north America. My bottle is from Saskatoon. There were different places that you could buy the bottles from like Co-op and many other different convenience stores.
When: On September 17, 1889, The Thatcher Manufacturing Company of New York patented a "Common Sense. Milk Bottle" on September 17, 1889. It featured the cap and seal common to bottles in use today. The first bottles were produced in 1905. And were used until 1950 or so.
Why: Because it was more convenient and probably easier for people back then. It made a few jobs for people that needed them. This was good because it was a way that you did not if on a farm have to go all the way to the in to town to get this keen thing.
