Response of the UN and reasons for UN neglect
Reasons for neglect: - if genocide is declared the UN is obligated to intervene - middle eastern countries were skeptical, they thought the western world was trying to colonize Sudan - Member countries of the UN are relucatant to use troops to help Darfur, so they do not admit genocide -
-They instead blame only the janjaweed for a widespread and systematic abuse that may constitute crimes againt humanity - The UN has taken on the role of peacekeepers not peacemakers - The UN has sent in aid groups for the refuges but has made no efforts to pu an end to the genocide.
