A Magnet is an object of any shape and size that had something called a magnetic field surrounding it. This glog will gove some information about Magnets.
Whats a Magnetic Field? A Magnetic field is a vector that is surrounded by magents and electric currents. It gives off electric charges on magnetic fields.
How Do Magnets Work? Every magnet has at least one south and north pole. These poles will stay constant even if the magnet is some how broken up. Those broken pecies will also have at least one south and north pole. The magnetic fields lines inside a magnet leaves the north end of the magnet and enters the south end. Magnets are attracked to mostly metals like iron nicke and cobalt. But there is more to a magnet then some people think.
So where do they come from?
Magnets are orignated from the greeks and the chinese. The story is that ancient Greeks and chinese found a rare stone and this stone was called lodestones. Apprently this stone was naturally magneized. The attracked small pieces of iron and metal in a way that was magical to the greeks and chinese. They also realized that the stone would always face the direction in which the metal was.
Types of Magnets Three Main Types: Permanents Temporary Electromagnets
Electromagnets are stored tightly in a coil of wire. This magnet also acts like a permanent magnet but only while the electric current is flowing through the wire.
Permanent magnets are the magnets everyone is most fimialr with. Like the ones we hang on the frig door. They are permanent becasuse once they are magnetized they keep that level of magnetism.
Temporary magnets are magnets that begin off as a permanent magnet when in a strong magnetic field, but lose their magnetism when it dissapears.
