Adolescence
Adolescence is the time period between puberity and adulthood. Often refered to 'middle childhood'
The developing teenager acquires the ability to think systematically about all logical relationships within a problem. The transition from concrete thinking to formal logical operations occurs over time. Each adolescent progresses at varying rates in developing his/her ability to think in more complex ways. Each adolescent develops his/her own view of the world. Some adolescents may be able to apply logical operations to school work long before they are able to apply them to personal dilemmas. When emotional issues arise, they often interfere with an adolescent's ability to think in more complex ways. The ability to consider possibilities, as well as facts, may influence decision making, in either positive or negative ways.
As a child grows in middle childhood, brain pathways governing seasations, actions, and thinking become speedier.

Puberty can be a time of changing emotions and new kinds of thoughts. You might feel like you’re on a roller coaster of moods and emotions. If you’ve started puberty, these are some of the things you might be dealing with, brain-wise: feeling sensitive, intense emotions, unfermilier emotions, mood swings, and conflict. Just remembe these things are extremely normal. It's all part of growing up.

Children begin to preceive themsleves as responsible to others because of the importance of getting along and of being a good citizen. They sek to act approprialy bcause people matte to the, not just to avoid punishment. -Kohlberg's theory of middle childhood- Parents remain important through out middle and late childhood even though friends play a central role. Parents continue to support self-esteen, reinforce values, promote academic sucess, and offer a sensitive ear and perceptive judgment. Peer pressure is often considered a negative force in adolescence. Teens may engage in a variety of destructive behaviors simply as a result of impulsiveness. Lacking a knowledge of consequences that is reinforced by solid experience, teens may engage ill advised behaviors such as driving while intoxicated or experimenting with drugs. Since adolescence is a time of dramatic hormonal changes, teens may be heavily influenced to give into sexual urges if they are given the opportunity to do so.
Kids and teens always need thier parents at every age. Do the best you can in bringing up your children so that they can come to you whenever they are in need. Let them know that there will always be someone there for them to rely on.
