Remember The Titans
The main character in this movie is Herman Boone. He is a coach and he wants what is best for his football team. He will not let differences such as skin color come in the way of a good football team. He looks indie a person and sees what they are capable of. Other Characters in the movie don't like Herman very much at the beginning. The assistant coach, Bill, doesn't like him because he took his job away from him. I think the players are a bit scared of him.
Do We see Ourselves the way others see us?
How do our values of self affect our lives?
Herman Boone: a good person, reliable, wants what is best for the team. Bill Yoast: bit stubborn, dosen't want to loose his job, honest with the players. Gary Bertier: angry towards the black people, has a change of attitue, hard working player Ronnin 'Sunshine' Bass: honest, kind, fun, cares for people outside his own color.
Gerry: being in a group of two races changes him for the best. It has helped him with his game, and with everything. He became good friends with a black guy and he began to see the world in a diffeent light. Bill: He overcame the differences between the people and became a better person. Julius: Saw that everyone was equal, became a better team player, a good friend and saw the world in a new way.
How does being a member of a particular group affect our identity and sense of self?
How should human beings behave?
When the black people imagrated into the white society everyone was angry, annoyed and irrated with thm. They were taking over thier jobs, their place, their town. This was kind of hard for me to believe, when I look at the world today the people all seem very content and happy living together, black and white and other races.
What is right? What is admirable?
The young 9 year old, Sheryl Yoast is an admirable character in this movie. She is a young child that also faces challenges when the black people move into their town. Time passes and she sees that they are also people just exaclty the sam as she is, well, Herman's daughter, who is the same age as she is, isn't the same...... she doesn't like football and she's a very girly-girl. Sheryl can understand the differences and except them. I think she excepted the differences way before the other people in the movie.
What is the darker sider of Human Nature?
Racism was really bad when this movie took place. The white people didn't take it well when the black people moved into their town. The black people weren't allowed inside any resteraunts and they were treated very badly. The white people didnt treat the black people with respect and they didn't want to get to know them either.
