Edmonton the Urban Sprawl
-This is not actually a picture of edmonton. This may look cool, but under it's glowing lights it has many issues such as health issues, lots of excess pollution, , and it is a car-dependent city which is return makes other issues.
Different arcitechure creates more space, increases parking space, increase walking space, and an area for bike riding. This increase health and decrease of car-dependency
Many Edmontonians may not notice, but the truth is they are living in an urban sprawl. An urban sprawl you may ask is, in this case, a very open subject consisting of a city spreading outwards towards the outskirts with low-density, auto-dependent development on rural land, with associated design features that encourage car dependency. This in return equals many disadvantages to the citizens living there. For example, long transport distances to work, high car dependence, inadequate facilities like health, cultural, recreational, entertainment, and higher per-person infrastructure costs. Albertan citizens seem to be the ones taking the hit because of this.
There are so many issues dealing with this urban sprawl such as more pollution, more accidents and traffic collisions, and worst of all hours of waiting in line at the emergency center at an Edmonton hospital because of the accidents. One of today’s biggest issues with people all over the world is obesity. Because of an urban sprawl, walking and bicycling is decreased due to its difficulty in those forms of transportation. Sprawling often negatively impacts water quality and agricultural growth.
