Pope Innocent III was pope from January 1198-June 1216. He was born as Lotario de' Conti di Segni. in Gavignano Italy. Growing up he studied in Rome Paris and Bologna. Some people think that he is the nephew of Pope Clement III but the names of the two men are just very simular. He is said too have a great hand in shaping cannon law and was a great jurist of his time. When he was a cardinal he wrote On the Misery of the Human Condition which was popular for centuries. He wrote On the Dignity of Human Nature to go along with it but he never completed it. When he was named pope he was reluctant but axcepted with the name Pope Innocent III at age 37.
