1920s Fashion Trends
Coco Chanel: ~She created the flapper fashion. ~She introduced the world to unisex jumpers. ~She worked in neutral tones of beige, sand, cream, navy and black in soft fluid jersey fabrics cut with simple shapes that did not require corsetry or waist definition. ~ She helped make the little black dress popular.
What women wore: ~They started to wear dresses that showed their ankles ~Later in the 20s they wore dresses that were above thier knees. ~The Mary Jane ankle strap button shoe was the style of the twenties ~Flesh colors were popular and they were made in either silk or artificial silk known as art silk later called rayon.
Fashion Trends: ~Fur collar on overcoats ~Coordinating coat linings with dress fabrics started at this time. ~Coats often wrapped to one side fastening. ~The coat was fastened by a huge button or buckle ~Women desired a small boyish figures so they could wear masculine clothes -Women wore heels to fancy occasions
Hairstyles: -Elton crop and bob styles became very popular -It was considered daring because women had previously taken pride in their long hair -A cloche hat told everyne you had short hair and you could only wear one if you had short, cropped hair
Sports Attire: -For some sports, women wore shorts and a nice blouse, -But for majority, they played in shorter skirts -Women's sportswear was becoming more masculine as they were permitted into more sports -Men wore knickers, sweaters, bow ties, and spectator shoes -Tuxedos were worn for fancy occasions
Men's Fashion -Men always wore suits to work, no matter their position at the office -They wore pants called London Cuts made by an English tailor Schotte
Accesories and Make up: ~Women wore huge bangles and big bracelets. If the bracelets had diamonds on it, it represented your wealth status. ~Women now put make up on in public and they wore blood red lipstick.
Flapper: ~Flappers are young women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and wore excessive makeup, drank, smoke, and drove cars.
Connections to present day fashion: ~Women started showing thier arms and legs which progressed to modern day clothes. -This era helped create the way that clothes now hang freely off of the body
How fashion impacted the people of the 1920s: ~It made people feel more important and sucessful because the more fashionable clothes were less expensive and now the average American could aford the 'in' clothes
