The battle of Passchendaele
The battle of Passchendaele was fought in 191t7 between the British and French, and the Germans.
The British fired artillery at the Germans for 2 weeks straight, shooting 4.5 million shells from 3,000 guns.
The Artillery destroyed the drainage system in the entire area, and when it rained, the mud go so deep that horses and me drowned.
The attacks were posponed until September because of the war.
Because of all the mud, soldiers had a hard time digging and maneuvering. the rain made tanks unneccessary.
The Battle took place between July and November 1917, and was the third of several battles destined to capture the village of Passchendaele
The Village of Passchendaele was finally captured, with the price of 310,000 British Expeditionary Force casulties, and months of combat in man-made mudlands. The Village of Passchendaele was captured on November 6th by British and Canadian Infantry.
