Recommendation: I would highly recommend this book to anyone. Whether you are a teacher looking for a historical and accurate perspective on music, and the life of a true genius, or just a student interested in a remarkable man in the history of music, this book is right for you.
This book is very historically accurate. The author, Larry Kane, was with John Lennon throughout a majority of his carrier and knew him more than most. Wherever John went, so did Larry. Larry was a journalist and spent most of his time with Lennon listening and storing every word in his head. He knew the genius that John was, and did not want to forget a single minute. A lot of this information in the book, however, did not come directly from John. Any stories and events were recorded by Larry from first hand experiences, and it was rare that John wanted to sit down for a formal interview. Lennon allowed Kane to listen and observe whatever was going on, and let him decide what to do with it. A majority of the historical information about Lennon came from relatives, close friends, and fellow Beatles. Lennon allowed his actions to speak for the rest.
This book reflects on the Life of John Lennon from his birth in 1940. John had a rough childhood and came through his tough times with the aid of music. From the beginning, John was seen as the head of many of the bands he was in, and continued to portray that image until his abrupt death on December 8th, 1980.
This book ties into today's society by showing that even trhough adversity, you can overcome many struggles if you put your heart into it. It also shows the power of music on thoughs in search of refuge during tough times. Music made John the man he was, and it was because of his millions of fans nationwide, that he is still recognized today.
