Angels and Demons: Robert Langdon is called to CERN headquarters to examine Leonardo Vetra, a catholic priest/scientist, who was brutally murdered, robbed of his eye in order to gain access to his lab, and then branded with they symbol of the Illuminati, a brotherhood long thought to be extinct. Vittoria Vetra is summoned home to help solve the case as to why her father was murdered. It is revealed that a canister of antimatter was stolen by the Illuminati and placed in some remote location of the Vatican City, the ultimate payback for years of being persecuted. In edition to stealing the antimatter, the Illuminati have kidnapped four cardinals, and threaten to kill one an hour using each of the four original elements: Earth, Air, Fire, & Water. Vittoria and Robert are flown to Italy to find the antimatter and save the cardinals. In edition to these tasks they must try to avoid the press, who have been alerted by a mysterious Hassassin as to the situation.
Dan Brown: Dan Brown was born in Exeter, New Hampshire. His father was an award winning math professor. His mother was a musician, specializing in religous works. His parents professions helped fuel his work considering the fact that he was surrounded by the issue of religion vs. science. New England also helped fuel Brown's work, because Brown was fascinated by the secrecy of certain societies and the elite clubs. Before Brown became an author he was an English teacher at Phillips Exeter Academy.
Critics generally enjoy the book; however, Brown's grammer tends to be a topic of criticism, as well as his stlye.
