-aristocratic blood - wealth came from silver, gold and copper mines in Venezuela [family owned] -financed South American Revolutionary wars -after death of his father, went to Spain in 1799 to complete his education. -married Teresa Rodriguez Del Toro y Alaysa in 1802, returned to Venezuela, Teresa dyed eight months later of yellow fever -returned to Europe in 1804 to join Napoleons retinue -in 1808 he participated in resistance juntas in S. America- Caracas junta declared independence[1810] & sent him to Britian -after the fall of the First Republic, Bolivar wrote a book on the Colombian and Venezuelan War of Independence; explaining w/ great detail & precision what he believed to be the causes of this loss. -liberated Venezuela from Spanish -1814 returned to New Granada where he commanded Colubian nationalist force. -Liberated: Venezuela, Columbia, Panama, Ecuador and Peru -liberated areas became "the Republic of Bolivia" -resigned his presidency on April 27, 1830 to live in Europe of France -died before setting sail, after a painful battle with tuberculosis
