America's best known gangster . . .
Al Capone was the leading cause in giving Chicago the reputation of a lawless city. Capone committed so many crimes but was only tried for one! While in New York Capone killed two men and never got tried for the murders. He was sent to Chicago while things cooled off. When the Capone family moved to Chicago, Al Capone joined Torrio in his bootlegging business. Later on Torrio was killed by one of their rival gangs. Since he died Capone stepped in to his place as the leader of the gang. He controlled speakeasies, bookie joints, gambling houses, brothels, horse and race tracks, nightclubs, distilleries and breweries. One of the well known killings of Capone’s gang was the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Though Capone and his gang murdered people they were sheer to have a alibi and never got in trouble for the murders. The Scandal that Capone did get caught for was tax evasion, over the years; he had failed to file tax returns threw the years 1925-1929. It was said that the government charged him with $215,080.48 in taxes from gambling!
Punishments:
Capone was charged with three different indictments, though he tried to bargin with them to get out of it, Judge James H. Wilkerson would not agree with any of the deals. He also tried to bribe the jury nut the judge changed the jury at the last min. so it didn’t work out. Capone was sentenced to 10 years in prison plus one year in the county jail. He also had an extra 6 months in jail for failing to attend court. Capone was released from prison on November 16, 1939 he then had to pay his court fines of $37,617.51.

I chose the letters C and G because Al Capone was Americas best known gangster who was a gang leader. I also chose the letter C because he was also a criminal, he killed people, stole, and went to jail for tax evasion.
Quotes:
"He was no hero to me. He hurt the Italian people." -Anthony Berardi "You can say what you want about Al Capone. If people were desperate and needed help, he was there to help them. As long as you were on the up-and-up. He didn't expect anything in return and he never expected you to pay him back." -Chicago resident "the symbol of a shameful era, the monstrous symptom of a disease which was eating into the conscience of America. Looking back on it now, this period of Prohibition in full, ugly flower seems fantastically incredible. Capone himself was incredible, the creation of an ugly dream" -New York Times
