Fact and Opinion
A hypothesis is a form of an opinion. A theory is also an opinion, but it is not a guess. It is important to realize that facts can change over time. Opinions are beliefs or judgements that cannot be proved by any objective means.
FACT A fact is is a statement that can be proved. You can prove it yourself, or you can use a reliable authority. Examples: Statements of Fact: Sources of Proof: Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. History Book Mr. Guthrie teaches math. Experience Jeff won the election. Number of Votes Your kitchen table is 52 inches long. Measurement
OPINION An opinion cannot be proved. It is based only on someone's thoughts, feelings, or judgement. Opinions: Abraham Lincoln was a great man. Mr. Guthrie works his students too hard. Jeff is the better candidate. You should have a larger table.
