SUBMARINE WARFARE
The Germans launched their own blockade of Britain using the U-Boat trying to stops supplies coming in from abroad!
The problem for the Germans was the U-Boats had never been used before in the war && there was no rules governing their use.
In february 1915 the Germans declared the seas around The British Isles a 'War Zone'
It was normal to warn a ship before it was fired upon, but this was not possible with the submarine because of the suprise nature of the attack .
The policy resulted in the sinking of the British liner the Lusitania in 1915. A german submarine fired a single torpedo at the liner without warning and it sank in 18 minutes, killing over 1000 passengers including 128 Americans
