Black and White Photofraphers
Annie Leibovitz has been making witty, powerful images documenting American popular culture since the early 1970s. she has taken photos in black and white of her family and close friends, and thus views a full “photographer’s life.
Davidson Clement took a picture in black and white where he shows how poor people live in poverty. In another, a hysterically grinning man grasps his daughter as though she were a prize. Montrealer Clement makes small life studies arranged in large installations that vary with the exhibition space.
Robert Frank’s black and white photos have become part of the visual art world in America after World War II. Frank began shooting still shots of shoes, purses, and other accessories, working with other recent hires of Brodovitch like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn.
