REGION: The Winder River reservation tribe also known as the Araphoe is found in the plains. This region consists of Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota. This region is mainly the plain with some mountains here and there. It is very dry and depending on the season hot or cold.
FOOD: The Arapahoe are great farmers. Their diet contains corn and many other fruits. They are also major meat eaters. Throughout the year they will eat buffalo and other animals they can find.
CLOTHING: The Arapahoe wore chothes made from the animal skin they have. The women wore split skirts or long buckskin dresses. The men wore breechcloth and leggings. The tribe also wore moccasins, as shoes, and buffalo hide robes.
SHELTER: The Arapahoe indians lived in houses called teepes. The teepees were made of buffalo hide and decorated with carpets and paintings. These homes were permanent, but they kept the same ones till they wore out. The teepees were created so that the tribe could breakdown and pack up in under an hour in case of emergencies. The indians kept the same houses no matter the weather. The homes had a center for a fire place to keep warm. To get rid of the smoke there was a hole in the top for ventalation.
INTERESTING FACTS: The most popular weapon in the Arapahoe tribe was the bow and arrow.
