She opened the door and the boys ran outside to absorb there new freedom the sun they have been dreaming of for a long time the fresh air they have been longing to breath and a place to get fresh water and food to go home to their parents and live a happy life they jumped around and cried in joy she watched them with a smile looking down at her dragon then at the boy with green eyes he seemed less joyful withdrawn from them lost she touched his hands gently with her and smiled up at him he smiled looking at her “you can go home now aren’t you happy” she asked he looked away still gently holding her fragile hand in his “I haven’t a home to go to” he said looking down at their hands her dragon nudged their hands and made them both smile “If it makes you feel any better I can no longer go home” she said and looked up into his deep green eyes she smiled at him so softly the other boys were off to the road to find their parents to tell them of the horrors they went through she stood with across the way in the forest watching the boys hug their families close to them they looked at one another then back to the boy the boy looked in their direction nodded a thank you and went home with their family as they turn to walk into the depths of the forest they look deep into each other’s eyes and move on to an unknown world beyond what they could ever imagine. . . that night they slept under the stairs her dragon close to her side and he lay close to her but watching her sleep she lay there motionless she had only been asleep for a little while when his face popped up in her dream laughing at her taunting her blood dripping from the arrow in his head she screamed in her sleep gasping for a breath the boy held her close the dragon looked at her scared for her she woke up In the boys arms in a cold sweat heart racing so fast she could feel it in her chest she was so scared she clung to the boy with everything she had “I saw his face I saw him he was there he said he said it wasn’t over yet he said he will come back to get me ” she buried her face in his arms shaking in fear “he won’t get past me I promise you that” the dragon crawled into her lap and looked up her as if to say make that two of us. . . two weeks later they were in a meadow and she was teaching her dragon to fly when he finally got he vanished into the clouds she hung her head thinking he wasn’t going to come back as she was about to turn around she heard the sound of wings and the ground shook when his massive body landed on the ground he stood tall and proud in front of her she stumbled backward looking at him the battle had yet to come she knew there was a storm brewing and she had little time to learn to ride her dragon the boy came to meet her baffled by the massive dragon that stood before them the dragon spoke but not allowed “the battle has yet to come it is time for once again the dragon riders to rise yet again” she looked at the boy and he looked at her she was the dragon rider she was the one that started it all she had to be the one to end it all the mounted his horse and she her dragon and together the road off to prepare for the battle that the dead man had in store but she knew he was not dead for he was only the shadow their hell lay ahead of them the darkness would rise to fall again and they were the ones who had to stop him. . .
